On January 9, America's CupExperience (ACEx), located in the Port of Barcelona, hosted the official premiere of Waves of Tomorrow, a documentary created by the Bluewave Alliance, promoted by ISDIN, and Odicean to raise awareness of the importance of protecting seas and oceans. The audiovisual project highlights Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) as a key to restoring the health and beauty of the Mediterranean, one of the richest and at the same time most threatened ecosystems in the world.

“Waves of Tomorrow” is filmed in the Illes Medes, a natural archipelago located off the Costa Brava that is a success story in the conservation of the seabed. In the documentary, the protagonists, María Barbena, Pol Ramos and Pol Vives, discover, while diving, the efficiency of these protected areas where fishing and human activity are limited to preserve the native ecosystem.

After the official premiere of the documentary, a round table was held with the participation of the protagonists of the documentary, the Bluewave Alliance team, and Juan Naya, CEO of ISDIN, the company that has promoted the alliance to recover the Mediterranean. At the colloquium, they discussed the current and future challenges of protecting the Mediterranean and agreed that MPAs are one of the most efficient tools for protecting the diversity of the fauna of our sea.

Commitment to raising educational awareness

“Waves of Tomorrow” not only seeks to impact society through its images and reflections, but also wants to raise awareness among children through education. During the event, it was announced that the documentary will be screened in several schools during the 2025 academic year, as part of the Bluewave Days activities. In the last edition, more than 500 students participated in awareness-raising workshops, and the educational reach of the documentary is expected to be even greater in the coming months.

The authors of the documentary, María Barbena, Pol Ramos and Pol Vives, emphasized the value of showing positive and transformative stories: “LThe Medes Islands teach us that, with commitment and effort, it is possible to reverse damage to our marine ecosystems.” This documentary marks the beginning of a journey that hopes to raise awareness and inspire concrete actions to protect other marine areas.

Juan Naya, CEO of ISDIN, highlighted during the event that”Waves of Tomorrow isn't just an awareness project, it's a call to action. We want to inspire new generations and demonstrate that the future of our oceans depends on what we do today, which is why at ISDIN we are an active part in protecting the Sea from which we were born”.

America's Cup Experience, the innovative space that hosted the premiere

“Waves of Tomorrow” premiered at the America's Cup Experience (ACEx), an innovative space located in the heart of Barcelona's Port Vell, in the emblematic location of the old IMAX and at the gateway to the Mediterranean Sea.

ACEx is the first official outreach center in the history of the America's Cup. It offers a unique immersive experience about the most prestigious regatta in the world, highlighting both the relevance of the oldest sporting competition and the legacy it leaves in cities historically linked to the sea, such as Barcelona.

During the competition in 2024, ACEx was one of the epicenters of activity and is currently available to the business fabric in the city for holding first-class events. At the same time, it remains open to the public, allowing visitors to delve into the fascinating history of the regatta.

The space has facilities designed for exclusive events, including its impressive 4K screen of more than 500 m², the largest in Spain and the second in Europe, located in an auditorium with capacity for 414 people and a 180 m² stage that provides a spectacular and differentiating dimension. In addition, ACEx offers two ideal areas for meetings and events: the Team New Zealand Auditorium and the Luna Rossa Room, located in the entrance area of the building.
